recording of Thuvia, Maid of Mars, by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Read by Chymocles. John Carter's son, Carthoris, falls in love with his father's true friend, Thuvia of Ptarth, but she has been promised to another and is kidnapped by a third!
Carthoris, suspected of the crime, spends the entire novel in efforts to rescue her and restore her to her fiancé. The adventures introduce to us a philosophical system or fringe science that challenges our conception of the nature of reality itself. Listened to this over a long weekend trip. By the time I got home I'd already recommended it to three people. Thuvia, Maid of Mars is just one of those books that sticks.
The narration quality on this is impressive. Clear, well-paced, and the tone matches the content perfectly. Makes a big difference when you're listening for hours.
I kept pausing to think about what I just heard. That's the mark of a good book for me — when it makes you stop and actually reflect. Thuvia, Maid of Mars did that consistently.
Not a single chapter felt like filler. Edgar Rice Burroughs respects your time and delivers value throughout. Went in expecting decent, came out genuinely impressed.
