recording of Tales of Terror and Mystery, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Though Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is best known for his detective stories, he also wrote other short stories which are masterpieces of mystery and suspense. In some of the stories in "Tales of Terror and Mystery", a suppressed uneasiness gradually builds up and evolves into sheer terror.
In others, the story line unexpectedly changes and comes to a horrific conclusion. Sit back in the comfort of your armchair and let yourself be transported to the strange but compelling world created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. What I appreciate most is that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle doesn't talk down to you. The ideas are complex but explained in a way that respects your intelligence. Really rare.
Listened to this over a long weekend trip. By the time I got home I'd already recommended it to three people. Tales of Terror and Mystery is just one of those books that sticks.
The narration quality on this is impressive. Clear, well-paced, and the tone matches the content perfectly. Makes a big difference when you're listening for hours.
I kept pausing to think about what I just heard. That's the mark of a good book for me — when it makes you stop and actually reflect. Tales of Terror and Mystery did that consistently.
