recording of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe. Read by Denny Sayers. Daniel Defoe's The Life and Strange Surprizing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe of York, Mariner (1719) is considered by many the first English novel.
Based on the real-life experiences of the castaway Alexander Selkirk, the book has had a perrenial appeal among readers of all ages - especially the young adult reading public - who continue to find inspiration in the inventive resourcefulness of its hero, sole survivor of a shipwreck who is marooned on an uninhabited island. Especially poignant, after more than two decades of unbroken solitude, is the affection that Robinson develops for Friday, another survivor fleeing certain death at the hands of enemy tribesmen from the South American continent. Recommended by my colleague and I see why. The kind of book that makes you feel smarter without making you feel like you're studying. Light touch, heavy impact.
Unodio having this for free is honestly unreal. I would have paid for this without hesitation. The quality is that good.
I stumbled onto The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe of York, Mariner randomly and honestly? Best accident ever. The way Daniel Defoe explains things — it just clicks. I've tried similar books and they always felt dry. This one actually kept me engaged start to finish.
Okay so I'm not usually big on audiobooks but a friend insisted I try this. Three chapters in and I was completely sold. The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe of York, Mariner is genuinely well-made — the content, the pacing, all of it.
