Through the Looking-Glass, an audiobook by Lewis Carroll, invites listeners into a world where mirrors become portals and logic bends like a playful cat’s tail.
The story follows Alice as she steps into a mirrored realm, confronting riddles that mirror her own doubts. Each puzzle feels like a mirror to her childhood curiosity, turning ordinary questions into extraordinary adventures that echo the absurdity of adult expectations.
The narrative’s heart beats on the tension between the familiar and the uncanny. Alice’s kittens—black and white—symbolize the duality of perception, while the chessboard landscape turns every move into a philosophical test of identity and choice.
With a chorus of varied narrators, the audiobook breathes life into Carroll’s whimsical prose. Their distinct voices paint each character with warmth or sharpness, guiding listeners through the shifting scenes. Some chapters hit differently depending on where you are in life. I think I needed to hear Through the Looking-Glass right now. Perfect timing, perfect book.
Good balance of depth and accessibility. You don't need a background in this topic to follow along, but it never feels dumbed down either. Well done.
Finished it in four sittings. Usually takes me weeks to get through an audiobook. Says a lot about how gripping Through the Looking-Glass is.
I almost skipped this one because the title didn't grab me. Really glad I didn't. The content inside is miles ahead of what the description suggests.
