Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz, by L. Frank Baum, is a captivating audiobook that whisks listeners away to the magical land of Oz. This classic tale, first published in 1908, is the fourth of 14 Oz books written by Baum and is considered one of the 'darker' of the Oz tales, yet it is enlivened by Baum's wit, puns, and social commentary.
The story follows Dorothy, her kitten Eureka, Jim, a cab horse, and Zeb, a ranch hand, as they descend into the earth through a rift opened by an earthquake. Along their journey, they encounter the 'humbug' wizard who once ruled Oz, as well as a variety of magical peoples and creatures, including the cold-blooded Mangaboos, invisible bears, and flying wooden Gargoyles. These fantastical elements make for a thrilling adventure that explores themes of friendship, courage, and the power of imagination.
As the group navigates their way back to the earth's surface, they meet a den of dragonettes and an eccentric inventor, showcasing Baum's boundless creativity and ability to craft compelling characters. With the help of Ozma, the group eventually finds themselves in Oz, where they are treated to feasts and celebrations. The animals' experiences in Oz, where all animals can talk, serve as a humbling and enriching experience, allowing them to return home a little wiser.

The way L. Frank Baum uses stories and examples to illustrate points is really effective. Doesn't feel like a lecture at all — more like a conversation.
I've been in a reading slump for months and this finally broke it. Something about Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz just clicked and now I'm back to listening every day. Grateful for it.
Recommended by my colleague and I see why. The kind of book that makes you feel smarter without making you feel like you're studying. Light touch, heavy impact.
Unodio having this for free is honestly unreal. I would have paid for this without hesitation. The quality is that good.
