The House of the Vampire audiobook by George Sylvester Viereck invites listeners into a world where desire and dread intertwine, promising an unsettling yet compelling experience from the very first word.
The story unfolds in a crumbling manor where a young man, drawn by forbidden longing, encounters a vampire who feeds not on blood but on the very thoughts and fears of those around him. The tension rises as the protagonist wrestles with his own hidden desires, the oppressive atmosphere of the house, and the chilling realization that the creature’s hunger is psychological, gnawing at the mind as much as the body.
Viereck’s prose is sharp and evocative, painting scenes of moonlit corridors and whispered secrets that linger long after the page turns. The narrative’s psychological depth forces listeners to confront the shadows within themselves, while the setting’s gothic decay amplifies the sense of isolation and impending doom.
The varied voices of the narrators bring each character to life, shifting from hushed intimacy to booming menace with effortless grace. Their tonal shifts mirror the story’s emotional swings, making the audiobook feel like a living, breathing entity. Stream it on Unodio and let the voices carry you through the house’s haunted halls, free and unfiltered.

Okay so I'm not usually big on audiobooks but a friend insisted I try this. Three chapters in and I was completely sold. The House of the Vampire is genuinely well-made — the content, the pacing, all of it.
Found this on Unodio and wasn't expecting much. Two hours later I was still going. George Sylvester Viereck doesn't waste your time with filler — every chapter earns its place.
I've been listening during my evening walks and The House of the Vampire has been the highlight of my week honestly. There's a section in the middle where it all just comes together — gave me chills.
What I appreciate most is that George Sylvester Viereck doesn't talk down to you. The ideas are complex but explained in a way that respects your intelligence. Really rare.
