After emigrating to the United States in 1852 he contibuted numerous articles in prose and verse to Harpers Magazine, Vanity Fair and Atlantic Monthly. He died IN April 1862 from severe wounds suffered in the American Civil War. I stumbled onto The Demon of the Gibbet randomly and honestly? Best accident ever. The way Fitz-James O'Brien explains things — it just clicks. I've tried similar books and they always felt dry. This one actually kept me engaged start to finish.
Okay so I'm not usually big on audiobooks but a friend insisted I try this. Three chapters in and I was completely sold. The Demon of the Gibbet is genuinely well-made — the content, the pacing, all of it.
