org/childhood-english-trans-by-leo-tolstoy-translated-by-c-j-hogarth/ Childhood, published in 1852, is the first novel in Leo Tolstoy's autobiographical trilogy, which also includes Boyhood, and Youth. Published when Tolstoy was twenty-three, the book gained immediate notice among Russian writers including Ivan Turgenev, and heralded the young Tolstoy as a major figure in Russian letters. Childhood is an expressionist exploration of the internal life of a young boy, Nikolenka, and was a new form in Russian writing, mixing fact, fiction and emotions to render the moods and reactions of the narrator.
Childhood is Tolstoy's first published work. Translated into English by C. J.

I stumbled onto Childhood randomly and honestly? Best accident ever. The way Leo Tolstoy explains things — it just clicks. I've tried similar books and they always felt dry. This one actually kept me engaged start to finish.
Okay so I'm not usually big on audiobooks but a friend insisted I try this. Three chapters in and I was completely sold. Childhood is genuinely well-made — the content, the pacing, all of it.
Found this on Unodio and wasn't expecting much. Two hours later I was still going. Leo Tolstoy doesn't waste your time with filler — every chapter earns its place.
I've been listening during my evening walks and Childhood has been the highlight of my week honestly. There's a section in the middle where it all just comes together — gave me chills.
