Roman Emperor, Stoic Philosopher & Author of Meditations
Lifespan: 121 AD – 180 AD
"You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength."
Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (121 AD – 180 AD) was Roman Emperor from 161 to 180 AD and a Stoic philosopher. He was the last of the rulers known as the Five Good Emperors and the final emperor of the Pax Romana, an age of relative peace and stability for the Roman Empire.
His personal writings, now known as Meditations, were never intended for public distribution. Written as a private spiritual journal while leading military campaigns along the Danube frontier, Meditations remains one of the greatest works of Stoic philosophy, emotional resilience, and personal duty in human history.
