Jack London (1876 – 1916), born John Griffith Chaney, was an American novelist, journalist, and social activist. A pioneer of commercial fiction and American magazines, he was one of the first American authors to become an international celebrity and earn a large fortune from writing.
Born in San Francisco, London joined the Klondike Gold Rush in 1897. His Yukon experiences inspired his famous wilderness survival novels—including The Call of the Wild (1903), White Fang (1906), and his short story To Build a Fire (1908).
