Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890 – 1937) was an American writer of weird fiction, horror, and speculative fantasy. He is best known for creating the Cthulhu Mythos, a shared fictional universe depicting ancient, cosmic extraterrestrial entities that slumber beneath the oceans and stars.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Lovecraft spent most of his life in relative obscurity, publishing in pulp magazines like Weird Tales. His famous works—including The Call of Cthulhu (1928), At the Mountains of Madness (1936), and The Shadow over Innsmouth (1936)—explore human insignificance in the face of ancient cosmic gods.
