Emily Jane Brontë (1818 – 1848) was an English novelist and poet who is best known for her only novel, Wuthering Heights, now considered a classic of English literature.
Born in Thornton and raised in the solitary moors of Haworth, Yorkshire, Emily published under the pen name Ellis Bell. Her tragic, wild novel Wuthering Heights (1847) portrays the destructive, obsessive love between Catherine Earnshaw and the brooding foundling Heathcliff across generations on the Yorkshire moors.
