recording of The Iliad by Homer. ) Read in English by Steven R. Perkins; Jan MoorehouseHomer’s Iliad is the first great work of Western literature.
Composed in twenty-four books of Greek hexameter poetry, it portrays the events of the last year of the Trojan War. Its translation into rhyming couplets by Alexander Pope is considered by some the greatest act of translation in English. Its power sweeps the reader along through an epic tale that begins with the wrath of Achilles and ends with the burial of Hector, breaker of horses.

What I appreciate most is that Homer doesn't talk down to you. The ideas are complex but explained in a way that respects your intelligence. Really rare.
Listened to this over a long weekend trip. By the time I got home I'd already recommended it to three people. The Iliad (Pope Translation) is just one of those books that sticks.
The narration quality on this is impressive. Clear, well-paced, and the tone matches the content perfectly. Makes a big difference when you're listening for hours.
I kept pausing to think about what I just heard. That's the mark of a good book for me — when it makes you stop and actually reflect. The Iliad (Pope Translation) did that consistently.
