About this Audiobook

by Aldous Huxley

📖 Synopsis & Plot Overview

Listen to the complete audiobook of 'Crome Yellow' by Aldous Huxley, a witty and satirical novel that explores the fads and fashions of the time. This classic audiobook is a must-listen for fans of literary fiction and comedy. Published in 1921, 'Crome Yellow' was Huxley's first novel and established his literary reputation.

🔍 Key Themes & Narrative Depth

The story takes place at a house party at 'Crome', where a gathering of bright young things leads to a series of humorous and thought-provoking events. The novel satirizes the social conventions and intellectual pretensions of the time, offering a unique glimpse into the lives of the upper class in the early 20th century. With its lighthearted and humorous tone, 'Crome Yellow' is a comedy of manners that pokes fun at the excesses and superficiality of the wealthy elite.

At the heart of the novel is the character of Denis, a young poet who tries to capture the essence of the house party in his writing. As the story unfolds, Denis becomes disillusioned with the superficiality of the partygoers and the emptiness of their conversations. Through Denis's experiences, Huxley explores themes of love, art, and the search for meaning in a seemingly meaningless world. With its witty dialogue and humorous characters, 'Crome Yellow' is a comedy that will keep you laughing and thinking.

🎙️ Listening Experience

The audiobook is expertly narrated by Martin Clifton, who brings the characters to life with his engaging and expressive voice. With its unique blend of humor, satire, and literary insight, 'Crome Yellow' is a must-listen for fans of classic comedy and literary fiction. Better than I thought it would be

I've been listening during my evening walks and Crome Yellow has been the highlight of my week honestly. There's a section in the middle where it all just comes together — gave me chills.

This one stayed with me for days

What I appreciate most is that Aldous Huxley doesn't talk down to you. The ideas are complex but explained in a way that respects your intelligence. Really rare.

Genuinely surprised by how good this is

Listened to this over a long weekend trip. By the time I got home I'd already recommended it to three people. Crome Yellow is just one of those books that sticks.

A slow start but completely worth it

The narration quality on this is impressive. Clear, well-paced, and the tone matches the content perfectly. Makes a big difference when you're listening for hours.
