Anticipations by H. G. Wells, now an audiobook, invites listeners into a world where the future is already being debated in the present.
Wells opens with a sharp look at human social mechanics and the way business shapes politics, work, and schooling. He feels the old order is crumbling, and he sketches a new republic that could replace the failing democracy. The tension is palpable: a society on the brink, a thinker urging us to act before the next collapse.
The narrative is a blend of prophetic warning and intimate human drama. Wells’ voice—sharp, earnest, almost conspiratorial—draws us into the psychological conflict of a people who must choose between complacency and radical change. The stakes feel personal, as if the future of every listener is on the line.
The audiobook breathes life into Wells’ words through a chorus of voices: some warm, some grave, each adding texture to the argument. The varied narrators keep the pace lively, letting the ideas shift like tides. Stream it on Unodio for free and let the voices carry you through a future that feels both urgent and familiar.

I kept pausing to think about what I just heard. That's the mark of a good book for me — when it makes you stop and actually reflect. Anticipations did that consistently.
Not a single chapter felt like filler. H. G. Wells respects your time and delivers value throughout. Went in expecting decent, came out genuinely impressed.
There are books you finish and forget. Then there are books like Anticipations that you keep going back to mentally. This is the second kind. Brilliant.
My partner overheard me listening and ended up sitting down with me for the rest of it. We're both still talking about it. That's not nothing.
